Layla - Texas

My daughter and I fell in love with our friend's Shiba Inu, and when we found out the breed also included a cream color, like our beloved cat, Princess, we HAD to find one. There were no Shiba Inu breeders in Texas, so I went on-line to look for a reputable breeder, which led me to MyShiba.com.

We were entranced by the darling puppies, and how well cared for the adults seemed. I talked first to Kevin for a good thirty minutes on the phone about the breed, how it might fit in with our family, how to get a puppy to Austin with the least trauma, as well as costs. During our conversation, we learned quite a bit about each other.

Kevin is obviously a devoted dad, sinking his time and money into his daughter's dream of owning a top-notch breeding facility for the dogs she loves so well. From then on, most of my conversations and Skype time with our puppy were with Danielle. She is quite the young woman, handling the animals and the details of purchase and transport on her own as a teenager! She is very poised and although both she and her dad are not effusively outgoing like my daughter and I, it is clear they share a strong love for each other and for their business venture.

I really worried about our puppy, Layla, being flown from Charlotte to Austin, but Kevin assured me that she would breathe the same air at the same temperature as the human occupants. So, we sent the rest of the money, and a few days later, picked up our loving perfectly healthy puppy at the airport. Her first drink was a sip of my Perrier, and her first chew toy was my Tiffany's necklace on the ride home.

She has since been to the vet, who pronounced her a sturdy, happy, calm girl. She didn't even whimper when she got her shot. She loves her crate (which is of course pink) and her carrier, where she sits when she rides with us wherever she goes. She is so spoiled--just like Jill and me! We had one bad night of the Shiba scream, but it was my fault because life got in the way that day and I wasn't able to play and be with her as much as I should. We are hoping the Princess, cat and mistress of all she surveys, comes around soon. Tomorrow Layla is heading to the beach house with us! She is just part of the family! Kudos to Danielle and Kevin, and much appreciation.
